A cold freezing day but the sun had melted most of the ice by mid morning, although the ground was still pretty solid. I didn’t try digging up any of the parsnips today. I was wondering how the netting on the purple sprouting had got on with some of the stormy weather we had over Christmas. The netting was no longer fully covering the purple sprouting but it was at least still on the plot. I put everything back up straight again and recovered. Some of the purple sprouting has been eaten by pigeons but most will grow back partially by the time it is needed.
I continued with digging out the strawberry bed a little bit more, there is no point doing too much until warmer weather and longer days as transplanting anything during January is sure to kill it. I also started pruning the raspberries which have been a bit neglected during 2024. That hasn’t been a big problem as they have been recovering from being moved about a lot during 2023. There is plenty left to tidy up while plant growth has died back, but that will be go another time.
