Sunny hot evenings in the garden

We have had 25c+ since the weekend, some very warm evenings and nights. Watering both the plot and the garden each day and seeing just how much over the last week that veg in the garden has grown.

May 2026 has had the hottest days of the year so far and a new May record of 25.9c in the garden (since my records began in 2021). The average temperature is 15.2c. The lows in the night time match the highs in the day time we were having at the beginning of the month. Rain and storms due at the weekend, but still warm with it.

Everything has been growing in the garden. We have been eating radish and salad leaves. Other plants still growing:

  • onions
  • carrots
  • sweetcorn
  • garlic
  • spring onions
  • celery
  • broad beans (small pods starting to form, no black fly)
  • runner beans
  • french beans
  • peas
  • mangetout
  • potatoes

I have tomatoes that I will plant out before the weekend.

We have spent most days and certainly the evenings at the garden table under a parasol that I found in the shed when I was tidying it up at the weekend. I forgot we even had that, we have never used it until now. We had one evening with the washing (sheets and bedding) drying on the line which skirts around the table, we had made our own little secret camp with the evening sun shining through.

It appears my laptop can still get a wifi signal this far out in the garden, so what is the need to ever go back indoors?
