Quick tidy before inspection

It happens each year, the council inspect the plots and those not 75% cultivated for the last 12 months get a letter, I suppose. I’ve never had a letter and I’ve never really noticed overgrown plots getting sorted, so I don’t know how affective it all is. We are told there are over 400 people on the waiting list, I look at all the overgrown plots around mine and wonder why something is not done to get those 400 people on to a plot and growing stuff.

I didn’t really do a quick tidy before inspection, I just did a normal weeding and hoeing and looking after bits. We are about to have a “mini” heatwave (not sure what one of those is but I expect it means it will be sunny for a while) and so I watered plants. I noticed a row of tiny carrot seedlings which was good to see. I’ve yet to see the same in the garden, maybe they are not showing yet as the garden gets a lot less sun than the plot at the moment. I was able to see radish mostly ready to pick, marking out the rows of parsnips which will need thinning in two or three weeks once the radish have gone.

I banked up the potatoes a bit more, some of the other rows have plants showing and so banked up those in places too. I am hoping next visit they will all be showing.

The grass was strimmed which made the paths look a lot tidier and looked after and I put down some more homemade compost for the courgettes when they get planted out later next month. I’m quite pleased with the amount of homemade compost this year.
