June 2026
The radish came and then went to seed pretty soon after. I blame the weather, the hottest day in the garden at 33.8c, that’s the hottest since I started collecting data in 2021, that was in the shade too. Lots of early morning watering. The broad beans carried on until they could carry on no more. The plants on the plot had finished but the ones in the garden carried on.
I must concentrate on strawberries next year. No mice eating them mainly because no real strawberries at the plot. The ones in the garden did well, but we don’t have that many. Maybe next year I will plant some more runners in the garden, while at the plot I must sort out the bed and get back on top of strawberries as they are such a good crop and taste so different to shop bought ones.
New for this year, mangetout. A bit of a challenge to pick them at the right time, some of them turned into peas (which was still harvested and eaten).
