Eating from the garden

Just before lunch we take a look in the garden and we may come back with:

  • peas
  • stawberries
  • cherries
  • beetroot
  • spring onions

It’s been super hot and sunny, watering early in the morning and sitting enjoying things during the day. We have picked all of the peas that I can see, the plants will die off soon and then we can remove them which will make space for the tomatoes on one side and beans on the other. The planning for that has worked out quite well.

I pulled up the spinach which had mostly all now gone to seed and replaced it with small looking squash plants. These were extras that needed repotting ages ago and have since struggled, I’m not convinced they will come to much but if they do then it’s a bonus. I staked up the extra tomato plants and tidied bits up removing the lower branches. I also removed the last bit of netting. The wide black plastic netting has been really good, you don’t see it on first glance, it is easy to use and store, it is wide enough to let insects and things in but squirrels and cats out.

In the row of beetroot we have the mystery yellow flower which came up last year and is back with us again. I’m quite happy with it being there.
