Quick visits to the plot for some late night watering. It’s been hot these last days, not massively hot (and the temperature probe has yet to register a fourth heatwave), but with lots of young plants on the plot it seemed wise to make sure they were all happy. The mystery squash plants seem to be pumpkins and are starting to spread out. The courgette plants didn’t make it which will be the second year with no courgettes.
I thinned out the swede plants and banked up the remainder. I am keeping these covered over to stop butterflies laying eggs. I did spot one caterpillar which I squashed and hunted for any others, I didn’t find any. Last year the whole crop got eaten so this year I’m being extra careful.
