I was surprised by how well the curly kale was growing, I was able to pick my second lot of leaves which seem to keep quite well at home in some water to use throughout the week. I was also surprised by how busy caterpillars had been throughout the plot on anything with leaves. The radicchio and chard had been badly affected although I was able to pick two of the radicchio which was good as it’s the first time we have grown them.
I was pleased do see raspberries from the, what seems to be, hybrid summer/autumn raspberry canes, not a lot but a nice handful I was able to eat as a snack while I was at the plot. I also spotted a small pumpkin, I’m hoping some more will appear before it’s too late as there seems to be plenty of pumpkin plant trailing across the plot but not many fruits yet.
At home we are still picking tomatoes, now mostly coming to the end and so I’m picking those that are starting to turn red but also some of the viable looking green ones with the hope they will turn red after a couple of days in the sun in the window sill. We are still picking celery as needed.
