I may be slightly ahead on my planning and doing, time to sow overwintering broad beans. The soil is not the best when I dug it over in an attempt to break it up a bit. I really need to get that rotted horse manure but I’m not sure I really want to collect it in my new car. In the mean time I filled holes with compost and put a bean into each of them. I covered with old plastic bottles to give protection for when the seedlings appear.

• tomatoes
• carrots
• beetroot

The tomatoes have actually done quite well for the plot, as well as can be expected with the hot hot summer and then rain. They are all viable, just not pretty.
