September 2025
No temperature records for September but I’m sure that if I had my rain sensor working (I must fix that) then it would had shown as pretty wet. Not much sun, plenty of rain which meant not as many tomatoes turning red before the days started to get shorter. It did get pretty old overnight, at 7.7c it nearly got as low as 2022 when it went down to 7c.

Cucumbers everywhere! Just two plants, in the garden, and after a number of bad years we have gone well into double figures for this years cucumbers. With the wind and rain I doubt we would have had many/any if they were up on the plot but in the garden they are a lot more sheltered and loved it. Tomatoes in the garden have also been sheltered and while it has taken a lot of effort for them to turn red, those that have done so have been good and we are eating tomatoes most days. Also in the heavy harvest have been apples which for the first year have given us loads and once again we have been eating apples most days too.
Our surprise crop of celery continues, so easy to leave in the ground and just pull off the stalks as needed, wash them off and eat them straight away. At times we have been using them in place of onions.
Borlotti beans I planted half a row as I had the seed, we didn’t really need them as we have dried beans left over from last year. Instead, the children enjoyed playing with them as counters. Likewise radicchio I had the seed and while a number got eaten by caterpillars, we did still get to pick some of them. However, winter lettuce I don’t really like as it’s too bitter, so we eat some of it but not much.
