Damage at the plot

There have been some really windy and rainy weather during the last week, really strong consistent wind. Arriving on the plot I found two dalek compost bins have blown onto the plot and in doing so have squashed onions and potatoes. A bit annoying as they were from the plot next to us which for the past three years as been in a state of “just starting”, moving rubbish around on their plot but not actually doing much else.

The potatoes were not doing that well before this, they never do well at the end of the plot and this winter I really need to pile it high with compost to help it along.

I had forgot about the left over tomato plants I put out last week, they all needed supporting and so did that while I weeded out the bindweed. Tomatoes on the plot normally get blight after a while, or are knocked down by wind, but seeing as they were going spare I thought I’d put them out anyway. At home I have squash plants to put out, and left over celery, so hoping to revisit this week to do that.

The broad beans have come to their end and so I chopped them down ready to put into the compost on the next visit. I need to line the bottom of the empty compost as there were a lot of weed roots at the bottom when I emptied it. I’ll put something at the bottom to prevent that being a problem for next year.
