Leeks and Left Over Tomatoes

Plus a load of watering, although in theory within the next 48 hours we are about to get a whole lot of rain after some very hot days over the last week. I cleared off the old purple sprouting bed and popped in most of the small leek plants that have been growing at home. Last year’s leeks didn’t come to much, they never really grew, I’m hopeful that these one will this year. They are nearly the width of a pencil (thin pencil) and look a more like they might do something.

I also put in tomato plants left over from those planted in the garden. The plants never left the seed tray, I just let them continue to grow in their crowded pot and thought there would be nothing to loose if I put them out at the allotment. Tomatoes on the plot normally end up with blight and not much else, but as they were going spare and I had the space, I thought I’d give them a chance.

Picked another lot of broad beans, the plants are starting to show their age and coming to an end. Just in time for the bean plants in the garden to take over. I’ve been eating a lot of broad beans recently.

Carrots and beetroot seedlings look to be growing well, and I noticed some bean plants starting to show. Potatoes are growing, but should be growing more than they are.
