A month of spending money, on seed potatoes (normal) and three new gooseberry bushes (a one off purchase). The existing bushes grew a lot of leaves but not much else. I think we had a couple of good years but mostly it is lots of leaves and seeing as we have had the allotment for eight years and the bushes were here when we took it on, they could be 10 years or so old. I have one of each colour, red, yellow, and green. I dug the holes and added compost before planting them out. I am pondering about training them along wires.

March is when purple sprouting and rhubarb is starting. We have been picking lots of both, the purple sprouting takes so long to grow but it welcome when we can finally harvest bits of the plants while nothing else on the plot is doing that much. Rhubarb, we have yet to make a rhubarb crumble but have roasted plenty and made rhubarb and custard bread and butter pudding. We have also given quite a lot of it away to friends.
