Rain and warmth in the garden

Rain in the summer is annoying but if it’s warm too then plants will grow and sometimes very fast. In the sheltered garden it has turned into a bit like The Lost World where I would be surprised to find mini dinosaurs walking about. This mostly seen with the runner beans (gone mad), the tomatoes (gone mad) and the sweetcorn (gone super mad) while it has encouraged the leeks (growing well) and the carrots (we are eating so many carrots we will soon turn orange).

I tidied the tomato plants up by removing a lot of their lower leaves and tying them to the poles. I’m starting to see small fruits forming and so will continue to trim leaves and branches so that they can concentrate on those. I had radish planted underneath them which had become over shadowed but now they are all trimmed back they look like quite a nice small number of radish.

While we have blackcurrants and redcurrants on the plot, they don’t seem to bear many currants these days. Unlike the blackcurrant bush in the garden, still temporarily planted and still not really looked after that much, it is giving us loads of currants. Likewise the cherry tree, although I find cherries a bit annoying to eat so while we had loads this year we have not picked that many.
