The peas came out this weekend, they finished a couple of weeks ago but some were still keeping on. It was time for them to come out, along with the supports, and allow me to plant turnips maybe next weekend which are currently in trays outdoors undercover.
We are still eating as many carrots as we can and I can see that it won’t be long before we give some of them away to friends as we also have a couple of rows at the plot. It’s been a good year for carrots which normally are a bit of challenge.
Corn on the cob has grown very tall and even if we don’t get any cobs worth having, just the fun of watching them grow and make the garden feel like a bit of a jungle, has been worthwhile.
I continue to prune the tomato plants, making sure they are not producing too many fruits and cutting off the lower leaves below the first lot of trusses. It has allowed a lot more light and air through the plants which given this year’s wet but warm summer, will help against any blight.
