Potatoes all planted on the hottest day

New records were made today in the garden when it registered 19.1c which is the hottest day of the year so far and also the hottest April day since I started recording temperatures in 2021. You can see below that March was a record setter too.

If it’s 19c in the garden then up at the plot it is likely to be a lot warmer and I wished I had taken a cold drink. The plan for today was to finish off planting out the potatoes. The final rows were all ready from before, I just had to drop a potato in the hole, cover with rotted down horse manure, and then draw the soil back over. Once all the rows start showing I shall start banking them up.

I’ve sown carrots at home but I felt like having a row at the plot too so I hoed in some of the rotted down horse manure (it’s all been used up now) and did a single row of quite small stubby carrots.

I could see young radish seedlings under the fleece where the parsnips had been sown the other week and so I removed the fleece and seeing as it was so warm, I gave everything a watering.
